How Industrial Light and Magic’s artists used new facial capture technology to faithfully recreate a real human performance, within an unreal non-human character.

Michael Lum is a Canadian born Animation Supervisor at Industrial Light and Magic. His passion for cinematography, design, and technology has inspired a 15 year career in the film and animation industry.

Michael first joined Lucasfilm for the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, before moving into VFX to work on the films Transformers 2, Rango, and Super 8. A later move to the UK led to such credits as Ready Player One, Star Trek Beyond, Batman V Superman, and three Avengers titles.

He most recently supervised the Animation for Avengers: Endgame at ILM’s London studio
