My character design journey: how I became a character designer and the lessons I learnt along the way.

I will talk about how I initially got into an artistic career and then eventually became a character designer. I will highlight key parts of my journey which have influenced my design process and helped nurture the skills I now use daily in my character design and illustration work, with an emphasis on the fundamental principles of effective character design.


Kenneth is a freelance character designer and illustrator working out of Glasgow. He started his varied career working in games production before moving into traditional animation and then into freelance character design. Highlights of his career include in-betweening on the animated feature film The Illusionist, re-imagining the Enchanted Forest board game he used to play as a child and designing weird and wonderful characters far various TV shows such as Bitz and Bob (CBBC/Boatrocker) and Butterbean’s CafĂ© (Nick Jr). Previous clients include BBC Cbeebies, Brown Bag Films, Nick Jr and Sesame Workshop.
